Maciolek/Mociolek/Maciotok/Maciotek Family   - [ Back ]

The name written in Polish is believed to be Maćiołek (MAĆIOŁEK), and to be pronounced, "Ma-cho-wek". Notice the acute C & stroked L letters. If these special marks are ignored, the spelling likely becomes Maciolek (MACIOLEK). If the acute symbol in the c is ignored, but the stroke in the l isn't, it likely results in the stroked-l being interpreted as a t, and then the name becomes Maciotek (MACIOTEK). And if the e is also mis-interpreted as o, it becomes Maciotok (MACIOTOK). Adding further confusion, in the Ellis Island records, the name is recorded as Mociolek (MOCIOLEK) (a interpreted as o). Because there are 76 MACIOLEKs and only 3 MOCIOLEKs recorded (most all of them from the same general area) I beleive the correct Americanized spelling is Maciolek (MACIOLEK).
